Precautions for Replacing the Variable Speed Pulley

When replacing the variable speed pulley, follow the requirements below for installation position, guard clearance, and adjustment. These three points are the most common causes of premature belt wear, vibration, and guard contact after a pulley change, so check each one before returning the machine to normal production.

01 Installation Position

During installation, position the pulley slightly farther inward where possible (see Figure 1). Correct inward positioning keeps the belt running in line with the driven pulley and reduces side load on the shaft.

02 Guard Clearance

During installation, ensure that the pulley does not touch the protective guard (see Figure 2). Confirm clearance by rotating the pulley by hand before start-up, and re-check after the first run-in period.

03 Adjustment Requirement

Important: The variable speed pulley may only be adjusted while the machine is running. Adjusting a stationary pulley can damage the belt and the pulley faces, and may leave the speed setting incorrect once production starts.

Quick checklist before restart

• Pulley set slightly farther inward, aligned with the driven pulley.
• No contact between the pulley and the protective guard.
• Speed adjustment carried out only with the machine running.
• Guard refitted and secured after the check.
